A never-say-die attitude by a Thula Bona Security armed response officer led to the successful arrest of five copper theft suspects on Friday morning, near Yellowwood Park.

The incident began when a Yellowwood Park resident reported hearing suspicious noises near the railway line at approximately 2am, on Friday morning. Thuli Bona Security was requested to investigate the noises described as sounding like copper cables being cut.

“Our armed response officer promptly raced to the scene and was successful in catching two of the suspects by surprise and quickly arresting them,” said Thula Bona Security community and media liaison officer, Andreas Mathios.

The officer was joined by members of Montclair SAPS and Prasa and a search began for the remaining copper theft suspects who had run off into a nearby bush. The Thula Bona Security units persisted in the tracking of the suspects and, at about 4.30am, called for backup as the trail had now led to Bayview, in Chatsworth.

“The relentless pursuit of the suspects resulted in the successful arrest of three more suspects on Higginson Highway,” Mathios said.

Once detained, the copper theft suspects were transferred over to members of Montclair SAPS who placed them under arrest for further processing.
